I can be very open.

They provide conversation about our shared interests that most of my offline friends are not interested in

Shared interests in niche things

Relative anonymity

They don't know anyone who knows me so all my secrets are definitely safe and also I can vent about everyone when I need to
Also I just feel more comfortable sharing darker stuff because they do the same - that might be because of their personality though not necessarily because it's online
